GPS Fleet Management Technology - The ultimate spy in the cab

There is much media speculation regarding the use of, or access to, operators’ GPS information by governments. We believe that operators are able to recoup the cost of a GPS based fleet management system within 6 months with appropriate focus by their managers. This payback is based on internal operating efficiencies such as fuel efficiency, revenue capture and other benefits specific to the individual operator. 90% of a transport operation takes place away from the direct control of the operator. The visibility which GPS solutions provide, enable the managers to understand and make decisions about that activity, providing immense potential for the productivity of the company, with resulting flow through to the bottom line (profit).

Government access to GPS information is normally desired for specific outcomes; RUC rebates, road charging etc. The vast quantity of the information which is collected by each GPS system for each operator, would overpower even the most significant of centralised computer system. The GPS information can and should be sanitised for the individual purpose for which it is being collected, enabling the government to fulfil the specific project for which the information was collected.

In this arena, CCS Logistics acts as an advisor to help central departments to understand the value of collecting such information, how it should be accessed (i.e. not live access to private operator’s company data) and the best way to filter and use that information in a way which provides benefits to everyone, including private industry.
